TITLE: Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Digital Media
COURSE INFORMATION
Students will study between five and seven units - three mandatory (240GLH) and between two and four optional units, totalling 120GLH.
- Unit 1: Media products and audiences (mandatory – 90GLH)
- Unit 2: Pre-production and planning (mandatory – 90GLH)
- Unit 3: Create a media product (mandatory – 60GLH)
- Unit 6: Social media and globalisation (optional – 60GLH)
- Unit 7: Journalism and the news industry (optional – 60GLH)
- Unit 16: The creation and use of sound in media (optional – 60GLH)
- Unit 20: Advertising media (optional – 60GLH)
- Unit 21: Plan and deliver a pitch for a media product (optional – 30GLH)
- Unit 22: Scripting for media products (optional – 30GLH)
- Unit 23: Create a personal media profile (optional – 30GLH)
- Unit 24: Cross media industry awareness (optional – 30GLH)
The mandatory units will give students an understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products that appeal to specific target audiences. They’ll gain knowledge and understanding of the pre-production, planning and production processes and go on to create a media product. Students will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability, and leadership.
The optional units provide students with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, understanding and skills in key areas such as, social media and globalisation, journalism and the news industry or advertising media.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Students must achieve 3 mandatory units – units 1, 2 and 3, plus a minimum of 120 GLH chosen from the optional units (30 GLH and 60 GLH).
Units 1, 2 and 6 are assessed by external examination and the other units are internally assessed via coursework projects.

A qualification in Digital Media provides access to a range of career pathways. These include: film and television productions; sound media; web, app; VR/AR development; games design and development; visual effects; motion graphics; print media; journalism; media; and photography.
